About

The people and philosophy behind the music.

Solstice is a film scoring and music production studio specializing in original music for film, games and television. Founded on the principle that music should serve the story, the studio brings a deep understanding of narrative and how to translate it into music.

Solstice was born out of our founder's years working alongside Hollywood's busiest composers providing additional music. That experience, paired with our distinct creative voices, became the foundation for the studio — built by composers who've shaped major projects, now telling stories of their own.

Timothy Schmalz

Timothy Schmalz

Composer

Timothy Schmalz is a film composer and music producer based in Detroit. He recently composed the original score for Seanie Sugrue's forthcoming feature Sticky, starring John Keating, Johnny Whitworth, Drew Powell, and Amanda Jones. His work also extends to documentary and commercial projects, including films for Coachella/Goldenvoice and ad campaigns for Acura, Audi, Amazon, and other major brands. Drawing on a deep background in music theory, historical musicology, and contemporary production, he approaches each project as a unique sonic world — building bespoke palettes of acoustic and electronic elements tailored to the narrative at hand.

Timothy got his start over a decade spent in Los Angeles, writing additional music for Blake Neely, Heitor Pereira, Lorne Balfe, Junkie XL, and numerous others, contributing to projects including Supergirl, Smallfoot, Playmobil: The Movie, Terminator: Dark Fate, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Challenge, and Sherwood. That experience working alongside some of the industry's most accomplished composers became the foundation for his approach at Solstice.
